KENNETH BI is an award-winning writer and director whose cross-cultural storytelling bridges Asia and the world.
Bi's filmography spans more than two decades and includes international festival favorites and commercial successes alike. His feature Wish You Were Here (2019) closed the Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival and stars Faye Yu and Takao Osawa in a poignant, cross-cultural drama.
Bi’s 2013 sci-fi noir Control, starring Daniel Wu and Yao Chen, earned honors at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. His 2010 film GIRL$, a raw portrait of teenage sex work in Hong Kong, premiered at the Hong Kong International Film Festival.
His breakthrough came with The Drummer (2007), which featured Jaycee Chan, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, and Taiwan’s U-Theatre. The film premiered at Locarno, competed at Sundance, and was licensed in over 50 territories. It won audience awards in Locarno, Seattle, and Toronto, and earned multiple Golden Horse and Hong Kong Film Award nominations.
Bi’s debut feature Rice Rhapsody (2004), starring Sylvia Chang, received accolades from festivals in Pusan, Houston, Newport Beach, and Tokyo. It was named one of the “Top Ten Chinese Language Films” by the Chinese Film Critics Association and earned him Best New Director at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
Outside of feature films, Bi has directed branded content, including the Cannes Golden Lion-winning VW People’s Car Project, and Nike’s “Just Do It – CAIN” series alongside notable Asian directors, Shiseido’s Aupres microfilm, and a cinematic spot for Aquair featuring Jiang Shuying.
